Meet Arielle Austin

How long have you been creating art and how do you remain true to your purpose?

Though growing up I've always created, it wasn't until after I graduated college that I truly began to take the process seriously. In that post-grad season I created to heal, to bring light to a bit of darkness that I was going through that I didn't have actual words for. I've kept a few paintings from those beginnings to remind me of how far I've come, not only creatively, but spiritually. It's been such a big part of my communion and worship, in a sense.

Can you tell us about "Their Garden Series" and what each of those stages means for you?

"Their Garden Series" comes from the different emotional stages I had been going through since moving by myself to Austin from California. Depicting the challenges of being and feeling vulnerable in a new city, stepping out of the comfort zones we build for ourselves, all the while remembering those whom we can lean on and the power of our own strength. I've always loved the idea of repurposing old flowers and bringing new, redeemed life to them.

When did you see your turning point of fearlessly creating and going against the grain?

One of my favorite quotes is by Katherine Center, "You have to be brave with your life so that others can be brave with theirs." It didn't take long for me to realize that the small and big choices that I was making by walking in my calling as an artist wasn't just affecting my life but those around me. Every day that I show up to a blank canvas, post an image of my work for the world to see, just simply say "yes" to the truth that this is what I'm called to do - those are all daily turning points for me.

I know you're new to Austin, what inspired you to move here and what do you enjoy most about this city?

Moving to Texas had been on my heart for years before I got here, for reasons unbeknownst to me. But there's nothing short of creativity of all types and an awesomely encouraging community to match, so I have a feeling I'm right where I'm supposed to be! Plus, the amount of food & food trucks to try out here should keep me happy & well fed for the rest of my life.

Join us April 17th 3pm - 6pm at our Art x Austin x Fashion Soiree to see more work from Arielle Austin.
